New Zealand is a land famous for its scenic beauty. When you book an experience with Molesworth Tours you can relax in the comfort of our luxurious fully air conditioned off-road buses. Sit back and relax as you take in the powerful vistas.
Our day begins with a scenic drive from Hanmer Springs to the settlement of Waiau where we will stop for morning tea and enjoy some free time to explore the local museum and historic buildings including an old church and cobb cottage.
Next we will make our way through the Leader Road and onto Woodchester Station, where we will be met by Rebekah Kelly who owns Woodchester Station with her husband David.
Woodchester Station appeared a lot in the news after the 2016 earthquakes as major fault lines ran through their property and a huge slip came down which caused a lake to form which is still there today.
Rebekah will meet us at the start of her 6km long driveway, along the way Rebekah will share with us her experience of living and working in this part of New Zealand and also about the damage that was caused to their property by the earthquakes. You will get to see the major slip as well as the new lake (Lake Rebekah) which was formed.
After looking around the property we will enjoy a picnic lunch in the gardens before making our way onto our next stop, Cheviot. Here we will stop in the Cheviot Reserve which was once the grounds and gardens for one of the big great farming estates, Cheviot Hills and look around the foundations which are all that are left of the homestead that was built by Ready Money Robinson in the 1860s.
From here we will drive down through Gore Bay, Port Robinson and then back to the Main Road before turning off just before the Hurunui River to take a back country road over the Lowry Hills Range to enjoy stunning views over the Amuri Plains before dropping down to Culverden and enjoying a short drive back to Hanmer Springs.
This tour runs on request, if you have a group that would like to book on please get in contact with us. Prices start from $285 per person with a minimum of 10 passengers.
